Australian football lovers are avidly watching their very own soap opera. It has been running now for nearly 30 years and ratings have never been higher. The show is called the Richmond Football Club and you can view episodes every day of the week. On weekends you even get a special match day feature length episode.
The major storyline at the moment stars Terry ‘Plough’ Wallace and his tenuous position as coach. We all know his head is on the chopping block and it appears certain he’ll not have his contract renewed next year. But the script writers at Richmond are expertly dragging it out for maximum impact and damage. It could take months of speculation and drama before this storyline is finally put to rest, but no doubt there will be another wonderful script dreamt up at Punt Road for us to be mesmerized by as soon as they bumble to a solution.
For Australian Rules Football we’ll have to wait for Sunday for the three blockbusters of the week. Adelaide takes on Hawthorn; Essendon will see how they are really travelling against the Cats; and the Pies will take on Port Adelaide at the MCG. The couch looks like the best option for Sunday that is for sure.
The Rugby League will soon shift its focus on to the State of Origin Series that starts early next week, but there are still plenty of games to bet on this weekend with two big matchups. St George will host the Panthers. The Panthers have been in fantastic form but will need to be at their very best to challenge the Saints that find themselves on top of the table. The impressive Knights will host the surprising Bulldogs. This game has a history of producing cliff hangers but we are lean towards the Knights, as they do have the home field advantage.
Good luck and good punting, and avoid the rush by getting on early at 888Sport for that winning edge.
