2009 French Open Results

This year’s French Open had every ingredient that goes into creating a memorable Grand Slam tennis tournament. Nadal was an unbackable favourite and 888 Sport Tennis Betting had him as short as $1.36 to win the tournament. He still had his supporters at that price as he looked to create history by winning his fifth French Open in a row. His dream would come crashing down around him as he made an early exit beating by giant killing Swede Robin Soderling.

The tournament will still be remembered for all the right reasons, however, as the Swiss rocket Rodger Federer won his first French Open and put forth his claim as the greatest player to ever play the game. His 14th Grand Slam title sees him equal Pete Sampras, but Sampras never even made the final of the French, let alone won one. Federer will win more majors before he finishes his career and like all Champions he continues to jump every hurdle placed in front of him. The French Open was the one tournament he desperately wanted to win; and win it he finally did.

Big serving Swede Robin Solderling couldn’t repeat his efforts against Nadal, when he went down to Federer in straight sets. The bookies got this one right and had Federer installed as a $1.25 favourite in the final.

The tennis world will now turn its attention to Wimbledon and remember that 888Sport will be booking all the games from the home of tennis. You might even want to get a bet in early- on who will win the tournament while you can still get a juicy price.
