Poker - World Series 2009

WSOP – one of pokers most anticipated annual tournaments. As usual, they begin with a large amount of hope and chips. The scene is the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Vegas, the actors - choice poker players from around the globe. The WSOP is one of the few times that poker minds gather to have it out on the felt.

The standard controversial entry of poker championship and multiple WSOP bracelet winner Phil Helmuth lived up to its expectations this year. Helmuth entered the room followed by 11 body painted women in accordance with his 11 WSOP bracelets.



Some facts about the WSOP 2009:

  • 6,494 players are partaking
  • Total prize pool is in excess of $61, 000, 000
  • One lucky skilled player will take home $8, 548, 435
  • 648 players will go home with a money prize


Team 888 at the WSOP 2009

Team 888 sent a delegation of 22 from a variety of countries to represent. Amongst them is Australia’s own Shane Warne, cricket star and Jeff Fenech, world boxing champion. The first day of the WSOP came with highs and lows. Warney finished day 1 with the highest amount of chips for the WSOP Team 888, and unfortunately Jeff did not make it through. German poker pro Michael Keiner, also part of Team 888, has made it to day 2.

17 of the 22 on Team 888 have made it to day 2.

So far in WSOP history, no day one leader has lived on to take the WSOP Main Event. Ending day 1 with the overall chip lead was US player Joseph Cada. It’s only a matter of time before one of the Aussies step up to the bracelet chase!
