How to play Caribbean Poker

It seems as though everyone is playing poker of some kind now. It is quickly becoming one of the most popular card games on earth. However, now all poker is played like Texas Holdem or Omaha Hi even though there are other variations. One that is quickly growing in popularity is Caribbean Poker. How is this game played?

Before anything happens in a round of Caribbean Poker, every player must post a forced bet or an ante. This gives every player an incentive to actually stay in the hand and not just fold. When all the antes are placed, the dealer begins dealing cards. Every player, including the dealer, receives 5 face down cards.

Each player will then analyze the hand they have dealt and see if it would be a profitable decision to keep on playing. The standard poker hand rankings apply here, and the main objective is to have a hand with a higher value than the dealer – you are not playing against the other players at the table. If you don’t think your hand is strong, you can fold now and lose your bet, but if you think you have a chance of winning, you can place an additional bet and continue.

After everyone has placed their bets, the hands are revealed. If the dealer does not show at least an Ace/King High, their hand does not qualify and the hand is over. Each player receives their bets back as well as an additional ante. But, if the dealer’s hand does qualify, the hand continues. From left to right, each player’s hand is compared to the dealer’s hand. If their hand is stronger, they get paid out based on the pay table. If their hand is weaker, they lose all their bets to the dealer. When everyone has been paid out, a new round begins.
Caribbean Poker really is a quite simple game. Within a few minutes after starting it, you will know all the rules and will have no trouble playing and winning!
