Poker players often say some stupid things. The stupidest thing you will ever hear is when a player says “I play much better against good players”. If you hear these words come out of another player’s mouth then you are looking at the losing player standing right in front of you. Poker is about winning and the easiest way to win is against players that are worse than you.

A good poker player loves being the best player on the table. You feel in control, you understand the game you are playing and you are not under any pressure about the level of poker you are playing. Make no mistake, if you are playing at a wild table with some crazy players the variance is wider but in the long run the rewards will be there. Remember bad players get lucky but they all lose in the long run.

It’s not rocket science, learn to climb before you start thinking about taking on Mount Everest. This is not to say that you don’t want to push yourself and play bigger more competitive games in the future but you want to take it slowly and master the steps along the way.

Find a game you can consistently beat and you will be well on your way to becoming a winning poker player. Online poker is the best place to start and you can move around with ease and try lots of different games and styles. You might find that you can beat the 50c/$1 No Limit game at Pacific Poker but you find the $2/$4 game is much harder. What you might need to do is start working on the $1/$2 game before you move up to the bigger limit.
